Large Antique Brass Jugendstil Art Nouveau Pouring Beer Stein/Pitcher Auto Race Prize by WMF c. Description: This very interesting brass beer pouring stein/pitcher was made by WMF. Founded in 1880 by the merger of two existing German companies, the WÜRTTEMBERGISCHE METALWARENFABRIK was, around 1900, the world's largest producer and exporter of household metalware, mainly in the JUGENDSTIL style. 10.000 different items were produced from the teaspoon to enormous table centerpieces and the metal used was mainly pewter with silver plating and use of glass for some items. Widely known by its initials, WMF, the company preferred to create its own designs and so the main proportion of the beautiful creations in Art Nouveau style are from their own Art studio which was directed from 1894 by sculptor and designer Albert Mayer.
The large and impressive pouring server is made of brass with brass fin ial and handle. It is decorat ed with simple geometrical ornaments typical for Jugendstil and tin-covered on the insid e. Engraved on the front is the presentation inscription indicating the pitcher was the Third Prize in the early Spring automobile race in the town of Nordlingen in 1911.
The pitcher is very impressive and nicely designed. This style is called Jugendstil and is the German version of Art Nouveau. It is a more simplistic and strict style that developed in the 1910s - often without whiplash motifs and floral decors. All the elements - the shape, the rivet decorations, and the handle and finial are all parts of a beautiful and stylish design.
It is 15 tall - quite impressive! - and the capacity is approximately 2 L.It is in a very good condition for the age - there are some minor age-related dings on the base but no damage or repairs. Condition: Excellent - some age-related wear.
