Antique Early German Faience Beer Stein Thueringen c. Description: Presented is a very impressive and beautiful old German beer stein manufactured in the region of Thueringia - an old German state located in central Germany around late 1700s. Made of faience with very beautiful hand-painted decorations that traditionally are associated with Tueringen factories. The decorations are made in Chinese style - don't forget that faience was a cheaper substitute for very expensive porcelain that was exported mostly from China (with very limited European production) at the time and usually was associated with Chinese themes and subjects.

There is a figure of a Chinese man in the 18th century Chinese clothes holding a parasol umbrella. Some exotic trees and flowers are painted on the sides.

Very nice stylized painting of the factory artist. The stein is mounted with pewter mounts consisting of the lid with a hollow ball thumblift, wide lip ring, and a massive foot ring. The body of the stein is in a very good (almost excellent) condition - there are 2 very short and tight lines at the bottom of the stein, otherwise no chips, breaks or repairs to the body. There is also an old pewter repair where the hinge connects to the lip ring, and a minor pewter split where the tang connects to the lid.

This is a very good condition for a beer stein that is over 200 years old - and with an interesting subject matter!
