Antique Faience Beer Stein Schrezheim Factory with Deer Signed c. Description: Presented is an early German beer stein made around the early 1800s. The stein was made in the factory of Schrezheim - one of the largest faience factory in Germany. Schrezheim was very famous in the late 1700s to early 1800s for its faience work and also for the best quality pewter lids. The factory was actually the longest-ran faience factory in Germany - it was in business from 1752 till 1865. The stein is made from traditional Schrezheim reddish clay and glazed with white tin glaze. It was then painted by one of the factory decorators, who created a beautiful picture of a leaping deer - a very common subject for faience decoration.

There lid has a five-ring closed type hinge and a hollow ball thumblift with twisted relief - this is very typical for the pre-Biedermeier period of the late 1700s. It is engraved with M.

Initals The stein is in a very good condition for the faience piece this old. There are two faint hardly visible hairlines - I tried to photograph it but it does not show well on my photos, - and minor glaze flakes on the upper and lower rand.

The line you seen on front is actually a painted line, not a crack. Otherwise, the stein is in excellent condition. It is 7 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Condition: Faint hairlines, some glaze flakes otherwise excellent. Title: Antique Faience Beer Stein Schrezheim with Deer c.
