Antique German Faience Beer Stein Saxonian Factory with Architecture dated 1841. Description: Presented is an early German beer stein made around the early-1800s. The stein was painted by one of the factory decorators who created a an interesting and colorful picture picture with a view of two churches with bushes and trees, and birds flying.
The steins of this shape are called in Germany "Walzenkrug" - "cylindrical stein". The lid is pewter with the urn-shaped thumblift. It's engravede with initials C. The lid also have pewter touchmarks on the inside - these marks belong to August Moritz Teichert, a pewterer in the Saxony region of Germany in the town of Dippoldeswalde.He inherited the pewter shop from his father in 1814 - 1818 and was active until 1848. It is hard to attribute the faience itself, especially because at this time (1841) very few faience factories existed in Germany. 90% of them were closed by the very early 1800s.
It is possible, though that the stein itself was made much earlier and was lidded around 1840. Most likely it was made in the Dresden faience factory - the town of Dippoldeswalde is in the nearest proximity to Dresden, the style of shape and decoration is quite similiar to Dresden. There is no cracks or chips, just some age-related glaze flakes on the top rim. This is a good condition - I would even say excellent - for a faience item this old. Thie stein is 8.5 tall, over 0.5 liter capacity.
