Antique Mettlach V&B Beer Stein Etched Dancing Couples #1162 Unusual Lid c. Description: This gorgeous stein was made by Villeroy and Boch in Mettlach in 1883. It is made in etched technique, with the relief enamel creating a wonderful effect. The central medallion of the stein portraits a dancing pair in peasant clothes, the side scenes show some other dancing couples - old and young. The idea of the stein is dancing for all ages and social groups.
The stein was designed by Christian Worth - the most famous Mettlach artist and designer who created many beautiful Mettlach pieces. The stein is fully marked on the bottom with Mettlach tower mark, mold number 1162 and "83" for the date of manufacturing 1883. The lid is somewhat very unusual - it is made of a combination of copper and brass, creating an astonishing dome shape. The body of the stein is in excellent flawless condition. The lid has some age-related dings, but still displays magnificently. This is a nice and impressive stein, with history and tradition behind it.
