Antique Mettlach V&B Beer Stein #2931 Applied Relief Ancient Germans c. Description: Beautiful and impressive antique German beer stein made by the most famous firm of Villeroy and Boch in Mettlach. It is made in bas-relief technique with gray-colored stoneware and applied off-white relief figures. With this particular technology Mettlach tried to imitate the most popular Wedgewood "jasperware" which in it's turn tried to imitate the extremely labor-consuming pate-sur-pate.Maybe "imitate" is not a good word - just to follow the trend. The relief picture on the front of the steins shows an ancient German warrior holding a shield with inscription. A woman is giving him a beer stein with a fresh brew, holding a pitcher in another hand Hast du Kater, ist mein Rat, trinke früh was du trankst spat.
If you have a hangover, here's my advice, drink in the morning what you drank late at night. The lid is pewter with the ceramics inlay showing a relief picture of a grape cluster with leaves. Marked with Villeroy and Boch green Mercury mark.
Model number 2931 and date mark 04 for the year of production 1904. Number 20 is the quality control number. The stein is 7 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing.
