Antique Mettlach Villeroy and Boch Kid's Beer Stein Etched Munich Child #2052 c. Description: This absolutely fantastic beer stein was made by Villeroy and Boch in Mettlach in the year of 1896. The design is attributed to Otto Hupp - one of the most famous Mettlach artists. The stein is dedicated to the city of Munich - it shows the Munich Child - the symbol of the city of Munich for many centuries - on the front view.

The Child is holding a beer stein in each hand and children on the sides are rushing to get them on the stick-horses. The lid is made of pewter inlaid with stoneware ceramics insert etched with the picture of a Cupid drinking beer. The stein was made as a children's stein - it was made only in 0.25 capacity and the design suggests it was targeting the young beer drinkers.

It was common in Germany to give beer to the young kids - it was even considered healthy. The stein is fully marked on the bottom with Mettlach tower mark, mold number 2052 and "98" for the year of manufacturing 1898.

It looks like the stein was mistakenly marked 2002 (another Mettlach Munich Child stein) and then was re-stamped 2052. The lid is engraved with the original owner's name: A. Tomae and some snicks on the sides of the thumblift. The stein is in excellent condition - there is no chips, crack or repairs. There is some very minor interior discoloration no damage at all.
