Wynand and other famous designers and art professors of Art Nouveau/Jugendstil era. This stein is unusual - it shows a pictorial relief very rare for Merkelbach and I was not able to attribute it to a particular designer. A stylized naked horserider is holding a wreath. The inscription reads: Ergo bibamus! " - "Therefore, let's drink! - the famous quote from J. Goethe poem that became a very popular song in old Germany.
The 6000 model number series were in use in parallel with the regular consecutive numbering. This numbering was abandoned in late-1910s.
Merkelbach Grenzhausen in two simple lines was in use from early 1900s till 1916. The stein is made of stoneware and glazed with "Koelnisch braun" glaze - a very special glaze technique imitating Rheinish stoneware of 1500 - 1600s used exclusively by R.
