Antique Ruby Red German Bohemian Stone-Cut Glass Beer Stein w/Inlaid Lid c. Description: Presented is a beautiful ruby red glass German beer stein with inlaid pewter lid with fantastic decorations created in the late 1860s - 1870s in the German controlled Bohemia (now Czech Republic). The body of the stein is made of hand-blown Bohemian crystal glass with applied handle and large pontil mark on the bottom. It was flashed with ruby-red translucent layer.
The glass then was engraved to clear with a copper wheel to create beautiful decorations giving a wonderful optical. The lid is pewter with a matching ruby-red cut glass inlay and the thumblift in form of a feather - a common thumblift for the late 1860s-1870s. The hinge is small five-ring closed type, this type of the hinge was used in the late 1860s.
