Antique Villeroy & Boch Mettlach Rookwood Type Pottery Beer Stein with Pewter Lid / Germany. The glossy dark brown ground beer stein is decorated with a man wearing vintage clothing, which includes a feathered hat and a ruffled collar.

He is smoking a pipe and holding a jug in the opposite hand. The pewter lid and thumblift are old -- the thumblift has a swirled shape. The lid top design is in the shape of a cartouche or plaque.

The size mark is 1/4 L. The recessed base has the old "Mettlach" mark and "DEC6137" impressed "2792" and a couple other small marks. SIZE: 5 3/4 inches high x 4 1/2 inches wide from edge of handle to side. CONDITION: Excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Great old stein for a collection.
