Merkelbach Jugendstil/Art Nouveau Beer Stein/Pitcher #2205 by Adelbert Niemeyer c. The artists who worked for R. Wynand, Carl Mehlem, Charlotta Krause, L. Niemeyer, and other famous designers and art professors of Art Nouveau/Jugendstil era. Nice unusual form design with ornate relief in typical Art Nouveau/Jugendstil style.

Designed by Adelbert Niemeyer in the early 1900s and produced until late 1910s. The stein is made of stoneware and glazed with "braun geflammt" glaze - a very special glaze technique used exclusively by R. The pewter lid is a special Merkelbach lid - there were special types of lids and thumblifts used with brown-glazed Jugendstil stoneware. Excellent condition with no damage or repairs.

The stein is marked with the "Reinhold Merkelbach Grenzhausen" mark used between 1916 and 1936, and 2205 model number. The stein is very large and impressive - it is 11 tall to the top of the thumblift, 3 L capacity. Get images that make Supersized seem small.
